People might have thought about what kind of future job they will have, who their partner is and how happily they would live. I’ve also thought about what kind of job I will have and whether I will live happily after graduating from college. I wonder what other students think about their future. So, I asked students of Gachon on what kind of questions they would ask to the future selves in 5 years, 20 years and 50 years respectively.

Kim Gyuheon (Department of Computer Engineering 19)

5 years later Are you living well? Did you get a job?

20 years later - Are you married?

50 years later - Are you living healthily?

Lee Hyojung (Department of Interior Architecture 15)

5 years later Did you get a job related to your major?

20 years later - Are your parents alive? Are you married?

50 years later Do you regret your past?

Kim Jina (Department of Interior Architecture 15)

5 years later - Did you find a job that suits your major?

20 years later What do you do now? Do you have children?

50 years later - Do you live well?

Kim Junghyuk (Department of Taekwondo 19)

5 years later If you became a taekwondo national athlete, why are you still doing this? If not, why did you give up?

20 years later - If you are not living well now, why didn't you work hard in the past? And what do you regret now?

50 years later Have you lived your life happily?

Choi Jeongjung (Department of Korean Literature 19)

5 years later - Did you graduate from college and find a good job?

20 years later - Where do you live now?

50 years later - What do you want to do for the rest of your life?

SeoJaeHee (Department of Computer Engineering 19)

5 years later Did you get a job that you wanted?

20 years later - Are you married?

50 years later - What is your plan for the rest of your life?

Kim Jaehyun (Department of Electrical Engineering 18)

5 years later - What were you thinking while having fun without thinking about your grades in university?

20 years later - Are you happy now?

50 years later - I would have lived without exercising and eaten as I wanted. So how is your health?

As a result, most of the questions after 5 years were about their occupations, and 20 years was about marriage and children. After 50 years, many questions were on the search of oneself, such as whether they lived happily or had any regrets. After giving them time to ask questions to their future selves, I also gave them some time to answer the questions for themselves. I hope that this campus talk could give each student the opportunity to make approximate plans. I thought that there would be a lot of answers that would match their futures. However, when I heard the answers, students were rather worried about their futures. If we do not want to worry about our future, shouldnt we put in some effort now? Your current actions will change your answers to yourselves in the coming 5, 20, and 50 years.
