People are graded for a lot of things during their lives. We are graded on our midterms and final exams when we are students, by recruitment and promotion tests when we get a job, and we have to take certificate tests when necessary. The reason for these tests is that we can test and judge our abilities. When people are also judged by other’s eyes on their appearance or behavior, it is not only people who are graded. Products which we use everyday, corporations, schools, nations and even history which we have lived are also being graded and judged.
Because of these grading systems, our society has become an increasingly competitive world. That may be inescapable. However, on the other hand, if we do not evaluate something, we lose motivation easily and we will not be able to improve any more. Everything will end up going round and round in circles. Hence, it is natural that people try to develop new ideas with the hope of creating something better.
Now, ask yourself how you live today, this month and this year. Before the year 2012 comes to an end, let’s have some time to grade ourselves and prepare ourselves on how to improve in 2013.
I would like to inform that the Campus Tour of Society section will be our last in this issue, and starting from the next issue there will be a Drama section, which will be included in our Culture section. The new section is made to recommend foreign dramas to help students with their English studies and give lessons, so please continue to give us your support. < Copyright © The Gachon Herald All rights reserved > |
