In recent times, the cost of movie tickets has gone up and movie theaters making fewer profits. More people are now watching movies on smaller screens at home. However, movies are often made with very high picture quality, sometimes as high as 8K resolution, and special ratios that make them look best on big screens. This is especially true for artistic films, where having a large screen and great sound makes a big difference. CGV (a movie theater chain), following the author's thoughts, has started something called ‘ART HOUSE,’ where they show different types of movies like art films, independent films, and special features separately. In this article, we'll talk about CGV ART HOUSE Myeong-dong, a place where we can really feel the beauty and messages of movies, and we'll explore movies as if they were pieces of art.

As we move into the 21st century, we can see more action and commercial films becoming popular. But films that offer a ‘unique’ kind of enjoyment, like independent and art films, are still being shown. As of July 2023, movies like "Ennio: The Maestro," which tells the life story of Ennio Morricone, a great music composer for movies, and films like "The Sun," which talks about young people's feelings and trouble with father-son relationship, along with Korean independent films like "The Secret Hill" and "Love Life," and even art films from countries like Japan and Italy, are being shown. Among these, I watched "Ennio: The Maestro." I saw it at a place called "Kim Ki-young Theater," which is meant for showing mainly art and independent films. Also, ‘CGV Myeong-dong Cine Library’ has something called the ‘Kim Ki-young Theater,’ which is a way to remember the famous director Kim Ki-young and his works in Korean art films.

By the way, ‘Ennio: The Maestro’ is a movie that tells the story of someone's life. Its format is like a documentary and the show time is 2 hours and 36 minutes. It talks about Ennio Morricone's life, from the 1950s when he was in the Italian music industry, to the 1980s and beyond when he was making music for movies. The movie shows lots of different parts of his life and work, including a kind of movie called ‘spaghetti westerns’ which means, American western were made in Italy in the 1960s, and how he influenced the music for movies.
Ennio Morricone was someone who studied trumpet, piano, and music composition. At first, he started working in pop music in Italy, but then he got a chance to make music for movies, and he found that he loves it. His main rule for making music in movies was "Do not just use existing music, make new sounds." He always made new music for the movies he worked on. For example, in his famous music for ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,’ he mixed classical music with different instruments like flutes, trumpets, and electric guitars. This made his music very iconic to listen to.
One more music he made was the ‘Love Theme’ for the movie ‘Cinema Paradiso.’ This music has oboe and flute playing, and it's very special. You can hear it when the most important part of the movie happens. The music matches the feeling of ‘remembering good times,’ and it makes the scene even more emotional and touching.

‘Ennio: The Maestro’ isn't only about making commercial success from movies. It's more about showing how much Ennio Morricone influenced the music in movies and how important he is to the history of cinema. Even though he's not alive anymore, his music will stay with us for many years, reminding us of his amazing work.
After watching ‘Ennio: The Maestro,’ I felt something different from commercial movies. This documentary gives me calm and peaceful. After the movie, I went to the ‘Cine Library’ on the 11th floor. There in the library, could still feel the emotions from the movie. The Cine Library has things to look at, like pictures and books about movies, and a place to relax.
The books in the library are all about things that filmmakers need to know, like the history of movies, art, and culture. The library also shows respect for Jun Do-yeon, an actress who did great work in the movie industry. At CGV Gang-byeon, there's even a place called the ‘ART HOUSE Jun Do-yeon Theater’ to praise her. They displayed the scripts from the movies she acted in.

This whole experience shows that ‘Ennio: The Maestro’ gave a special feeling. After watching the movie, going to the Cine Library helped to keep that feeling alive. This way, people can keep enjoying the world of movies, learn about important filmmakers, and explore more about movies.
CGV has a special idea called the ‘Korean Filmmaker Tribute Project: The Respect.’ It shows art films, independent films, and other types of movies. This way, they remember important people in the Korean movie industry and also help independent Korean movies. CGV's efforts are making Korean movie industry better, and this is expecting for the future. This also changes how people see movie theaters. They are not just for fun; they are places to learn and enjoy different kinds of movies.
