What if starting a business, a huge barrier to creating something from nothing, could be achieved in just one semester of school classes? Gachon University's Entrepreneurship College, which was newly established in the second semester of 2022, operates an 'Entrepreneurship Semester System' through Gachon Cocone School to support students in starting their own businesses to relieve their academic burden. Gachon Cocone School opened as a start-up university with the full support of Cocone Chairman Cheon Yang-hyun, an alumnus of Gachon University. Gachon Cocone School selects up to 40 students who have completed three or more semesters through the ‘Entrepreneurship Semester System’. It also has a system in which these students are recognized as being part of an entrepreneurship major when they complete a total of eighteen credits in six subjects in one semester. Exceptional students during the semester are promoted to the Entrepreneurship Department after graduating from the semester system and are given the permission to major in entrepreneurship for up to three semesters. This curriculum is entirely conducted in the dedicated space for the Entrepreneurship College located on the 6th floor of the AI building. Since this startup space is only available to selected students of Gachon Cocone School, students who want to use the startup space should apply for the Gachon Cocone School semester-registration program, which is recruited at the end of each semester. The international organization World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is entering the startup university. The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is the only international non-profit organization that works with civil society to serve as a bridge between the international community and the United Nations. This is the first time in Korea, outside of Seoul and Incheon, in which an international organization has been incorporated into a university. This increases opportunities for overseas communication and exchange, increases the possibility of international advancement, and expands the scope of start-ups. In addition, Gachon Cocone School rents offices at low rates to early-stage startup teams. External studios incur rental fees of up to 500,000 won per month, which puts quite a burden on students. Taking this into consideration, it was possible to set up an office inside the startup university. There is also a filming studio available.
In addition, the 700 pyeong start-up space, which includes various meeting spaces, private rooms for business calls, personal work tables for undergraduate students, a lounge, lounge, and a seminar room, provides the optimal environment for nurturing start-up talent.
